England name 17-man Ashes squad
England has named their squad for the upcoming Ashes tour. The Ashes is variable one of the biggest series to have ever existed and probably on par with any of the biggest cricket tournaments owing to their century-old rivals between the two sides. Thus the strongest available English squad has been selected for the away Ashes. However, even this time they are going to be without the services of Ben Stokes.
Owing to the fact that he is still in his indefinable break in order to take care of his mental health, England will have to be without the services of their star all-rounder. Another key player they will be missing is the pacer Jofra Archer as he is yet to recover from his injury. “Ben is moving forward, the communications I have had with him he is definitely more upbeat,” said Silverwood, after revealing a 17-man squad. “What I will say is there will be no pressure from me for Ben to rush back. I’ve said ‘when you’re ready you call me and we’ll make a plan from there.’ Said Silverwood
Mark Wood, James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Chris Woakes, Craig Overton, and Ollie Robinson are the pacers in the squad with left-arm Sam Curran also ruled out with a stress fracture. Ollie Pope, Jonny Bairstow, Rory Burns, Haseeb Hameed, Zak Crawley, Dan Lawrence, Dawid Malan, wicketkeeper and vice-captain Jos Buttler, and captain Joe Root are the batters in the squad. Last but not the least, Leach and Bess are the spinners in the squad.
“A tour of Australia is the pinnacle as an England Test cricketer. I’m delighted that all of our available players have committed to the tour,” England head coach Chris Silverwood said in the official statement. “This is why we play and coach to be involved in iconic series like this. More than half of our squad haven’t featured in an Ashes tour before, which means we will be fresh and looking to embrace the cricket and the excitement of touring one of the best places in the world.”
