The biggest carnival of cricket – the Indian Premier League, has completed its 13th edition. Since 2008, this annual tournament has been an impeccable platform for producing outstanding talents, clubbing giants in the most enthralling T20 format, and has introduced a dynamic approach to the game, making it both classy and entertaining for the audience. So far, there have been 13 IPL winners, and one of those teams i.e. Mumbai Indians has proven the most successful team holding the winning crown 5 times. It might be hard to remember the winners of every season, which is why we have put together a complete IPL cricket winners list. The following below mentions all the Indian Premier League winners year-wise so as to provide you with a clear picture of all the season wins:
IPL 2020 Winner : Mumbai Indians
A fifth title in the bag of the defending champions Mumbai Indians made the Mumbai Indians Supporters, seeing the entire association in virtual mode yet they were overwhelmed with joy and which in turn made the Mumbai Indians, undoubtedly, the most successful team in IPL history and Rohit Sharma, the most successful captain in IPL. Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by 5 wickets in International Cricket Stadium, Dubai to grab their fifth IPL trophy.
Delhi Capitals batted first making 156 sudden spikes in demand for the board for Mumbai Indians to pursue in 20 overs with Shreyas Iyer making 65* and Rishabh Pant making 56. IPL 2019 Winner: Mumbai Indians
A title is taken for the fourth time by yet again Mumbai Indians made Mumbai the most successful team in the history of the Indian Premier League. Mumbai Indians came face to face battling the Chennai Super Kings for the fourth time in the IPL finals. Out of the previous three confrontations, Mumbai was leading with a 2-1 record winning the tournament in 2013, 2015 and losing once in 2010. Mumbai Indians faced Chennai Super at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. In the first innings, Mumbai had to settle for a low total, after scoring 149 runs at a loss of 8 wickets from 20 overs. They however restricted the Chennai Super Kings to 148/7 in 20 overs winning the tournament by just one run which was quite breathtaking. Andre Russell from KKR was also honored with the award as the player of the tournament for his contribution of 510 runs and 11 wickets in the tournament which was literally a wonderful performance.
IPL 2018 Winner : Chennai Super Kings
It was the comeback year for the Chennai Super Kings as they returned after serving the two-year ban due to match-fixing. It was CSK’s seventh IPL Final as they faced Sunrisers Hyderabad against them who were playing only their second at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
In the first innings, Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 178 runs losing 6 wickets in 20 overs, setting up a huge target of 179 runs for CSK but it was not impossible for CSK which they chased down the massive target and scored 181/2 with nine balls to spare and lifted the IPL Trophy for the third time.
IPL 2017 Winner : Mumbai Indians
It appears as if Mumbai Indians had developed a habit of winning the IPL Trophy every other odd year. Mumbai Indians faced Rising Pune Supergiants at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad in the IPL match 2017 finals.
It was a low-scoring match with Mumbai settling for a low total, after scoring 129 runs on a loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Whereas on the other hand, Rising Pune went to score 128/6 in 20 overs, and thus MI again won the trophy by just one run. It was the third Title victory for Mumbai Indians and Rohit Sharma and Ben Stokes of the Rising Pune Supergiants was awarded the player of the tournament with 316 runs and 12 wickets.
IPL 2016 Winner : Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad played against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the 2016 IPL finals at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Batting first Sunrisers set up a humongous absolute of 208 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. It was RCB’s third IPL Finals and first for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. IPL 2014 Winner : Kolkata Knight Riders
KKR recovered the IPL title after a concise gap of one season and lifted the IPL Trophy for the subsequent time, again under Gautam Gambhir’s initiative. KKR confronted Kings XI Punjab at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. IPL 2012 Winner : Kolkata Knight Riders
At last, the constantly encouraging Kolkata Knight Riders took the IPL Trophy winning the fifth release of the IPL. Chennai Super Kings arrived at the IPL finals for the third back-to-back time and confronted KKR at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Batting first, CSK set up a target of 191 and scored 190/3 out of 20 overs during which Suresh Raina scored a run of 73 from 38 balls.
Kolkata Knight Riders showed outstanding performance under the direction of Gautam Gambhir who stretched the target to 192 runs for the loss of 5 wickets with two balls left, with Manvinder Bisla scoring 89 runs from 48 balls. Also, Sunil Narine was granted Player of the tournament for taking 24 wickets in 15 innings.
IPL 2011 Winner : Chennai Super Kings
CSK won the IPL title continuously in 2011 and made a record that is yet to be broken of winning the IPL twice consecutively. This time Chennai Super Kings faced the Royal Challengers Bangalore at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Batting first, CSK scored 205 runs at a loss of 5 wickets from 20 overs, setting up a huge target for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
RCB failed for the second time in an IPL final as they scored only 147 runs losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. CSK won the match by 58 runs. Murali Vijay was awarded the Man of the Match award in the finals for his score of 95 runs whereas RCB’s Chris Gayle was awarded the player of the tournament award for scoring 608 runs and taking 8 wickets in the match.
IPL 2010 Winner : Chennai Super Kings
Subsequent to arriving at the season finisher stages for the third year continuously and losing in the finals in IPL 2008 to Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, at last, lifted the IPL Trophy in 2010. Under the administration of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings confronted the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2010 finals at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

IPL 2009 Winner : Deccan Chargers
Deccan Chargers who were at the foot of the table back in 2008, won the match and took the trophy against all odds in 2009 under the captaincy of Adam Gilchrist. In the finals, Deccan Chargers scored 143 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs setting a target of 144 runs for the opposite team i,e. Royals Challengers Bangalore. RCB failed to accomplish the target by 6 runs and only scored 137 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs at Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Adam Gilchrist was given the title of player of the tournament for his contribution of 495 runs with the bat and 18 dismissals behind the stumps.
IPL 2008 Winner : Rajasthan Royals
IPL 2008 was the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League tournaments. While a lot of big names were involved in several teams, Rajasthan Royals grabbed the IPL Trophy for the very first time to which everyone was surprised. A young team mostly made of uncapped Indian players was absolutely talented and showed great discipline under the leadership of Shane Warne, who was both the coach and the captain of the RR.
Rajasthan Royals defeated the Chennai Super Kings by 3 wickets chasing CSK’s target of 163/5 in 20 overs at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Shane Watson received the man of the tournament award for his excellent all round performance.
